Khlysts
this was a sect in russia, 17th to 20th century. It was based on christianism, but there was no veneration of saints, no priesthood and no holy books…it was a much more spiritual group, based on ascetism and rituals to enter in direct contact with the holy spirit. It was common in some industrial areas and in each group there was a man and a woman called “christ” and “mother of god”, respectively. There were rumours of orgies and flagellation becoming part of their rituals. The number of these “cells” dropped a lot in sovietic times.
